The 4th Enabling Employers Awards, organised by SG Enable, that recognized companies and individuals for transforming their organisations into places that are friendly to persons with disabilities. Minister for Social and Family Development Tan Chuan-Jin said that organisations can be transformed for the better after hiring people with disabilities. SG Enable Chief Executive Ku Geok Boon said that the winners’ contributions and dedication remind us that we can all play a part in fostering an inclusive culture.

The Leaders awards were given to United Overseas Bank (UOB), NTUC FairPrice and Uniqlo (Singapore). UOB Mr Davis Chew, a supervisor at Yishun Community Hospital’s environmental services, was one of the winners of the newly created Enabling Buddies award. He took the trouble to train his two employees who have mild intellectual disabilities. UOB, which initially had trouble retaining staff at its Scan Hub, managed to overcome the challenge by hiring people with autism as they have characteristics that are well suited to the job, such as their focus and inclination towards structure.
